Lana Del Rey - West Coast

Lana Del Rey balik lagi, sob. Kali ini dia dateng dengan single terbarunya, West Coast, yang juga diset sebagai lead single album  terbarunya, Utraviolence.

Dirilis pertengahan April 2014 lalu dalam format digital download via label Interscope, West Coast cukup diperhitungkan buat menggebrak dunia musik global. Lagu ini masih punya semangat yang sama dengan lagu-lagu Lana Del Rey sebelumnya. Yap, musik rock yang dibalut dengan unsur-unsur gloomy emang masih jadi senjata Lana buat membius telinga penikmat musik global.

Dalam pembuatan single ini, Lana Del Rey bekerja sama dengan Rick Nowels. Sebelumnya Rick juga pernah bantuin Lana di lagu "Summertime Sadness" dan "Young and Beautiful". Hasilnya bisa dilihat, kan? Jangan bilang lu belum pernah denger satu pun lagu tadi. Hmmm. Berkat kerja sama dan kejeniusan mereka pula akhirnya tercipta lagu berdurasi 4 menit 17 detik ini. Begitu.

Lagu ini simple, tapi classy. Agak aneh mungkin saat pertama kali dengernya. Tapi bakal ada sepersekian bagian lagu ini yang bikin penasaran dan pengen ngulang dengerin lagi. Penuh dengan unsur "hipnotik" dan "dark" tapi tetep catchy. Dibuka dengan instrumen yang sederhana, beat yang ngga terlalu cepat tapi pas buat ngimbangin vokal sexy-nya Lana Del Rey.

Verse-nya cukup mengayun-ngayun, kemudian dibikin lebih dramatis di bagian prechorus. Dan... chorusnya dihajar habis-habisan dengan dramatis. Ngga. Ngga kaya gitu. Itu pengennya gua doang, sih. Heheh. (Mungkin sebagian orang kaget) Di bagian chorus temponya di-switch lebih lambat semacam breakdown gitu, deh. Biar kelihatan makin gloomy, beatnya diperlambat dan suaranya Lana Del Rey didobel. Kemudian pola yang sama diulang sekali lagi sampai lagunya berakhir. Instrumen-instrumen yang ada semakin bikin atmosfer dark-nya keluar apalagi menjelang akhir lagu.

Sebetulnya diluar ekspektasi gua, tapi emang Lana Del Rey selalu menampilkan musik anti-mainstream. Meski tanpa bridge yang wow atau chorus yang meledak-ledak, lagu ini tetep bagus dengan kesederhanaannya. West Coast bener-bener "electric", "hypnotizing", plus "stunning". Kalo dari skala 1-5 gua bakal kasih lagu ini 4.5/5. Bener-bener cerdas dan revolusioner. Di tengah serbuan musik pop bubblegum, Lana Del Rey berhasil menghasilkan lagu yang jauh berbeda dan berkualitas. Hmmm. Hypnotic beats, sexy lyrics, Good job-lah, mba.

PS : Sampe tulisan ini ditulis, belum ada pengumuman resmi soal kapan Ultraviolence dirilis. Selain itu, karena masih baru, lagu ini belum masuk chart mana-mana. Tapi prediksinya, minggu depan "West Coast" bakal debut di atas Top 40 U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
